A patient's heart rate is climbing fast. Sinus tachycardia, or a true tachyarrhythmia? And if it's the latter, does this particular patient need treatment now, or close monitoring?
Tachyarrhythmias show up regularly in small animal practice, and telling them apart matters: miss the ones that need treatment right away, or you risk acting on one that didn't. In this practical webinar, Dr. Locquet builds a systematic approach to recognizing tachyarrhythmias on the ECG and deciding what to do about them.
What to expect
After this webinar, you will be able to:
- Recognize and systematically differentiate the most common supraventricular and ventricular tachyarrhythmias encountered in small animal practice.
- Develop a structured approach to ECG interpretation in patients with tachyarrhythmias, including assessment of rate, rhythm, QRS morphology, atrioventricular relationships, and rhythm regularity.
- Understand the clinical significance and hemodynamic consequences of different tachyarrhythmias, and identify which patients require immediate treatment versus further investigation and monitoring.
- Review the practical management of tachyarrhythmias, including acute stabilization, selection of antiarrhythmic therapy, and longer-term management strategies.
About your host
Dr. Laurent Locquet
is a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine
(Cardiology) and Course Master of SkillVet's cardiology programs, where he has
taught every module to date. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Ghent
University. He completed his European Residency in cardiology at Ghent from
2017 to 2020, became a Diplomate ECVIM-CA in 2022, and was recognized as an
RCVS Specialist the same year.
He is also a certified perfusionist (he completed the standard two-year certification program in a single year) and holds an MBA from the London School of Business and Finance. From 2022 to 2026, he practiced at Dick White Referrals in the UK, one of Europe's largest veterinary referral centers. He held an Honorary Associate Professorship at the University of Nottingham for four years.
Since February 2026, he has been self-employed, working through Laurent Locquet Veterinary Consultancy alongside SkillVet.
Nine years into a career built around veterinary cardiology, he brings that clinical experience directly into how he teaches a rhythm strip: one clear step at a time.
Who is this is for?
This webinar is for practicing veterinarians who see fast or irregular rhythms on the ECG and want a clearer, more confident way to tell them apart and act on them: not a list of arrhythmias to memorize, but a method that still holds up when a patient in front of you needs a decision in the next few minutes.
It's free, it's live, and it includes real Q&A with Dr. Locquet, worth the hour if a fast rhythm has ever made you hesitate.
